Defenders sink Sea Dragons to gain XFL championship game

The best team in the XFL will play the team that made the playoffs with the league’s worst record in the championship game at the Alamodome on May 13.

The D.C. Defenders picked up their 10th win of the season in style on Sunday, scoring 28 points in the second half to break a tie en route to a 37-21 win over the Seattle Sea Dragons.

The victory gave D.C. and its beer-snake-loving fans the North Division title and a spot in the XFL championship game against the 5-6 Arlington Renegades.

Cam’Ron Smith, who 10 days ago was working at a car dealership, had 5 carries for 25 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Defenders.

The Defenders and Renegades met in the regular season on April 16 and it was an exciting game.

D.C. saw Arlington score 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to force overtime tied at 26.

The Defenders connected on the only 2-point conversion that was successful in the extra session for the victory.

Reggie Barlow’s team has lost one game in this XFL experience. Oddly, it was to the awful Orlando Guardians by one point. It was the lone victory for the Guardians in 2023.

Seattle finishes at 7-4. The Sea Dragons fell behind 30-9 after being deadlocked at the half with the Defenders.

They scored a couple of touchdowns in the fourth quarter but by then the game was well out of reach.
