Daytona, NASCAR bumped for Buccaneers: Coke Zero Sugar 400 changes channels for NFL again

Football is king.

We all know that, or at least we should.

And now, for the second straight year, there's an in-your-face reminder.

Tonight’s Coke Zero Sugar 400, broadcast nationally on NBC, is being bumped to the Central Florida affiliate’s cable partner so the affiliate (Orlando-based WESH) can instead broadcast the preseason NFL game between the Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Bucs.

The Daytona race is being moved from WESH (Channel 2) to its cable sister channel, WKCF (“The CW”).

This also happened a year ago when the Bucs were closing out their preseason schedule against the Indianapolis Colts. Tom Brady was the Bucs quarterback a year ago, and most assumed his presence was the deciding factor for WESH, but it’s Baker Mayfield’s offense now in Tampa, and apparently that’s still enough to redirect the Orlando affiliate’s programming.

It's not just Orlando. NBC affiliates in 10 other markets nationwide, including Tampa, are either moving the race to a sister network, to NBC's Peacock streaming channel, or joining the race in progress after preseason NFL games in their respective markets.
