Dak Prescott: 'I want to be the best QB the Cowboys ever had'

Dak Prescott does not lack for confidence, which is a good thing when you’re playing the most marquee position in sports: quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.

“I want to be the best I can,” Prescott said at a recent charity event. “I want to be the best quarterback that the Cowboys ever had. So when I go in each and every day, it’s just about being the best player I can be. All that stuff comes when you play the game well.”

Best Cowboy QB ever? That’s some pretty lofty territory there, what with Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Tony Romo, Quincy Carter, Clint Stoerner, the immortal Babe Laufenberg … anyway, Prescott will have to do some work if he wants to top that list.

As a starter, Prescott is 22-10 (yes, we know quarterback wins are a meaningless stat, but still). In his first two seasons, he’s thrown for 6,991 yards and 45 touchdowns with only 17 interceptions. He’s also run for 639 yards and 12 touchdowns on 114 carries.

He’s done it all while earning the rookie base salary of $720,000 per year, but the Cowboys are likely to lock down Prescott in the $20 million-per-year range. So even if he’s not the best quarterback in Cowboys history, he’ll be the best-paid. Going to be a fun few years in Dallas watching all this play out.
