Dak Prescott’s return to glory earns Week 8 Player of the Game

Expectations had been tempered as the Cowboys reached the unofficial midpoint of the season. Dallas has been excellent both at home and when coming off their bye recently, but they faced a fiery Los Angeles Rams team that doesn’t go down without a fight. Or so everyone thought.

Dallas struggled on their first few snaps, allowing a lot of pressure to get to quarterback Dak Prescott. Then a switch flipped and the offense clicked while the defense dominated, allowing the Cowboys to walk away victors in convincing fashion. A 43-20 victory improved Dallas to 5-2 on the season.

Prescott finished the contest with 304 yards passing and an over 80% completion percentage. His CPOE was +16.3 as he repeatedly pushed the ball downfield with precision passing. It was his signature game of the 2023 season thus far.

Once Dallas kicked the bye-week rust off their boots, Prescott led the team downfield and delivered this perfectly thrown ball up the seam to TE Jake Ferguson for the score.

The teams traded field goals making the score 10-3, and then the game got out of hand. The Dallas defense and special teams stretched the lead to 19-3 and gave the offense the ball back inside the scoring zone. In just under a minute Prescott found WR CeeDee Lamb to make it 26-3 early in the second quarter.

A couple of three-and-outs for both sides and an unlucky pick that was tipped twice for Prescott later, he came back fearless on the last drive of the half.

With pressure coming from both sides, Prescott stepped up and scrambled right to deliver a beautiful pitch and catch to none other than Lamb once again.

With the score 33-9 going into the half, Dallas just needed to survive the clock. The Rams started the half with a score and two-point conversion which led to a nearly 10-minute drive for Dallas that resulted in a field goal.

Entering the fourth quarter with a 36-17 lead, Prescott and company put the nail in the coffin as he connected with WR Brandin Cooks down the sideline for the score.
