D’Andre Swift out again, T.J. Hockenson needs surgery, Penei Sewell upgraded

The Detroit Lions returned to practice on Thursday in their preparation to host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. They had bad news and good news. Their best offensive weapon in the passing game will be out the rest of the season but their first-round tackle was upgraded.

There were some changes to their injury report on Thursday. The details are below.

TE T.J. Hockenson (hand), T Will Holden (personal), G Jonah Jackson (back), LB Julian Okwara (ankle), RB D’Andre Swift (shoulder)

Hockenson will have to go on injured reserve. He needs season-ending hand surgery. Safety Jalen Elliott was listed as a DNP Wednesday for personal reasons and then was placed on the COVID list Thursday. That might happen now with Holden. Jackson, Okwara and Swift were unable to practice for the second straight day. Swift has already missed two games.

DE Michael Brockers (knee), LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (shoulder), WR Josh Reynolds (thigh)

Reynolds was a new addition, while Brockers and Reeves-Maybin both were limited for the second day in a row.

Full participation

LB Derrick Barnes (knee), LB Austin Bryant (shoulder), T Penei Sewell (shoulder)

All three players were upgraded from Wednesday as all were limited. With Sewell back as a full participant, it looks like he will be good to go to play against the Cardinals.
