CVCC places 17 on all-academic team
Jul. 19—HICKORY — Seventeen Catawba Valley Community College student athletes have earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic honors.
NJCAA student athletes are placed onto one of three teams based on their GPA for the entire school year — first team (4.0 GPA), second team (3.8 to 3.99) or third team (3.6 to 3.79). A total of 10,116 NJCAA student-athletes were honored for achieving a GPA above 3.60, including 2,702 first-team honorees, 3,347 second-team honorees and 4,117 third-team honorees.
This is the seventh straight year that at least 10 or more Red Hawks have received NJCAA All-Academic honors.
"I am extremely proud of our student athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom," said Red Hawk Athletic Director Nick Schroeder. "Competing on the court and field are secondary to achieving excellence in the classroom. These student rose to the occasion this school year."
Seven of the Red Hawk student athletes honored were first-team members, including softball players Annie Andrews, Jillian Jones and Kiana Mullner and baseball players Trace Baker, Sam Carpenter, Eli Harpalani and Isaiah Martin.
Of the 17 individual Catawba Valley student athletes honored by the NJCAA, 11 are members of the Red Hawks baseball team, including All-Academic Second Team honorees Ian Anderson, Matt Beisecker and Connor Bradley and All-Academic Third Team members Aidan Cannady, Bryson Chandler, Tim Flanagan and Carter Starnes.
The Catawba Valley softball team had a program-record five NJCAA All-Academic honorees, including Alyssa Kropski and Abi Teague — both of whom were named third-team All-Academic.
Chol Adichol represented the Red Hawk men's basketball team as a NJCAA Second Team All-Academic honoree.
All 17 of these student athletes also made either the President's or Athletic Director's List at CVCC.
