Cowboys stand pat after injuries, will roll with what’s there

On Sunday night’s season opener the Dallas Cowboys took a licking on the scoreboard and in the injury department. Tight end Blake Jarwin, who was set to play a considerable role in an offense expected to compete with the best in the league tore his ACL and is out for the year. Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch broke his collarbone and is out for 6-8 weeks.

But just because the training room is starting to resemble a MASH unit, don’t expect the front office to dip their toes into foreign waters. Tuesday morning Jerry Jones went on 105.3 the Fan to talk about his team and shot that down in a hurry.

This time of year doesn’t present an abundance of options to fill these holes, but the Cowboys Wire’s K.D. Drummond hand-crafted a list of players who could be had to help solve some of the team’s woes. The names here are familiar ones and could provide a boost to a team who could suddenly use one just a week into the 2020 campaign.

The injured players don’t represent the only problems in Dallas. The middle of the defensive line had issues in the run game and the safeties were largely invisible.

But for those who went to bed with thoughts of sugar plum fairies, Earl Thomas or Snacks Harrison dancing through their heads, that doesn’t seem to be the route the Cowboys are looking to take in mid-September.
