Couple's creative Halloween costume inspired by Randy Johnson goes viral

Halloween is almost here, and many people across the United States got dressed up over the weekend to celebrate it. For sports fans, one costume in particular has stuck out as being the best so far this year.

Twitter/X user "alex" (@nothanksalex) posted a photo of her and her partner, Seattle-based comic Reece Green, in a baseball-themed couples costume on the social media platform on Saturday night, and it quickly went viral.

The photo shows Green dressed as former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson while Alex is dressed as a bloodied bird. The couples costume is a reference to the infamous incident in 2001, when the left-hander hit a bird mid-flight while throwing a pitch during a spring training game against the San Francisco Giants.

Fall Classic 2023: Unlikely hero Merrill Kelly has coming out party in Diamondbacks' World Series win

Arizona Diamondbacks World Series

Johnson's spring training incident was not the only exciting moment of the Diamondbacks' 2001 season. The team won its first World Series title that fall.

This year, Arizona is back in the Fall Classic, taking on the Texas Rangers. On Saturday night, the Diamondbacks evened the best-of-seven series at one game apiece with a 9-1 rout.

Veteran pitcher Merrill Kelly dominated the Rangers on the road despite the potential distraction of three young Texas fans dressed as bananas and dancing around in the stands behind home plate at Globe Life Field.

The World Series heads to Phoenix for Game 3 on Monday, Oct. 30 at 8:03 p.m. ET on FOX.
