Cottage Grove boys soccer falls in OSAA 4A state championship

HILLSBORO — Cottage Grove boys soccer fell to Newport, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday night at Liberty High School in the OSAA 4A state championship.

In the win over Cottage Grove (14-3-1), Newport secured its third state title in program history and first since 2017.

"We've been down a goal before this whole tournament and the resilience of the guys coming back to tie it 1-1 really shows their character," Cottage Grove head coach Jaime Urenda said. "It was an unfortunate goal there at the end, keeper didn't see it.

"I got to give it to these guys. Nobody expected us to be here and here we are. But you know what, we'll be back next year for sure."
