As Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook continues his recovery from a concussion suffered during the 2018 season he’s now participating in the team’s offseason workouts.

A team spokesperson told Madison.com that Hornibrook was part of the team’s winter workouts on Tuesday. A team’s starting quarterback participating in winter workouts is typically not a big deal but it is in Hornibrook’s case. He played in nine games and started the first seven of the season. But he missed the team’s game on Oct. 27 against Northwestern because he didn’t pass concussion protocol.

He came back the following week against Rutgers but then had to be removed from the game after his head hit the ground. After missing Wisconsin’s next two games, Hornibrook played the regular-season finale against Minnesota.

But concussion issues came back after that game even after Hornibrook had visited a concussion specialist. Hornibrook was able to practice some as Wisconsin prepped for the Pinstripe Bowl against Miami but had to be held out because of concussion-related problems. As backup QB Jack Coan took over as the team’s starter for the bowl game, some wondered if Hornibrook would ever be cleared to play football again.

Hornibrook, a redshirt senior in 2019, had his best season as a sophomore as Wisconsin finished the season 13-1. He completed over 60 percent of his passes and threw for 25 touchdowns against 15 interceptions.
