Community Calendar: Wrenshall Brickyard Days and more

Sep. 7—Wrenshall Brickyard Days, 3 p.m., Jim Erickson Field, Carlton. Brickyard Days kicks off with a tailgate at 3 p.m., followed by the Carlton/Wrenshall Raptors football game at 4 p.m. The tailgate will include hot dogs, chili and soup for purchase with all proceeds benefiting the Raptor Scoreboard Fund.

Community Chess Club, 3:30-5 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Cromwell Harvest Fest, Cromwell Park. Events kick off with a steak fry and chicken wing contest.

Blackhoof Firefighters Relief Association Annual Pancake Breakfast and Raffle, 7 a.m., Blackhoof Fire Department, 3148 Carlton County Road 5, Barnum. The raffle drawing will be held after breakfast.

Wrenshall Brickyard Days, 7 a.m., Wrenshall. A pancake breakfast runs from 7-11 a.m. at Wrenshall School. There will also be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, with the time TBD. A 5K run will start at 9 a.m., and the parade will get underway at noon. After the parade, there will be an open house at the Wrenshall Fire Hall featuring ice cream, a raffle and the chance for children to spray a fire hose. There will also be fun at Deer Park including Bigo, kids' carnival games, crazy hair and facepainting, a pie and bake sale, food and craft vendors, a dunk tank and a ball pit. A free showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie will begin at dusk. Attendees can also enter the cornhole tournament and take in live music at Bricks.

Cromwell Harvest Fest, Cromwell Park. Festivities continue with kids' activities in the park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including sand art, pumpkin painting, relay races, a duck race, bobbing for apples, pumpkin tic tac toe, the giant kerplunk, the soccer kick and the outdoor twister. The farmers market and vendor show gets underway at 11 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. The Cromwell Class of 1953 will host their 70th class reunion and the Cromwell Class of 1963 will host their 60th class reunion; both events will take place at the Cromwell Park Pavilion at noon. A bags tournament begins at 1 p.m.

House Fire Fundraiser for the Stansfield Family, noon, Cloquet VFW, 210 Arch St., Cloquet. The Cloquet VFW will host a Sloppy Joe dinner fundraiser to the benefit Nate and Bobbie Stansfield, who lost their home in a fire on June 23. The Stansfields have four children. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. and includes 50/50 drawings, a silent auction and food. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for kids. Those who can't attend can contribute to the

RideSafe Community Presentation, 5-8 p.m., Carlton County Fairgrounds, Barnum. Professional powersports athletes, certified safety instructors and law enforcement will share the importance of wearing proper safety gear, riding the correct size of equipment and getting safety certified. The presentation is free and will include the following speakers: Kristen Almer, RideSafe executive director; Hubert Rowland, UTV pro; Rob McConnel, ATV safety; Tony Elwell, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources; Shaun Kalos, dirt bike professional; and Eric Senarighi of the Carlton County Riders.

Storytime, 10-10:30 a.m., Cloquet Public Library. Join Miss Morgan for storytime. The weekly events feature stories, songs and interactive activities. Storytime is geared toward children ages 0-5 and their caregivers.

Free Health Care Fraud, Waste and Abuse Prevention Class, virtual. The Senior LinkAge Line will offer two classes from 10-11:30 a.m. and again from 2-3:30 p.m. Attendees will learn how to detect and report potential errors, fraud, and abuse; review potential fraud and scams targeting older adults; learn how to read their Medicare paperwork; learn how to protect their Medicare beneficiary number; and how to protect/detect/report Medicare scams and fraud. This presentation includes information from the Senior Medicare Patrol, a federal education and prevention program. The Senior LinkAge Line is authorized to offer 1.5 Continuing Education Units to participants. Be sure to ask about this, if you need the CEUs. Chair Yoga for All, 11-11:45 a.m., Cloquet Public Library. Carolyn Ripp will lead the class. Chair Yoga can increase flexibility, improve core strength and balance, reduce stress and pain, and more. It can be beneficial not only for seniors but for anyone who has desk work and/or tends to sit for a long period of time. Come in comfortable clothing. No previous experience is necessary.

Carlton County Trailblazers, 11 a.m., Cloquet VFW, 210 Arch St., Cloquet. The Carlton County Trailblazers welcome men and women 55 and up to first luncheon meeting of the season. Gun Bingo, 11:30 a.m., Four Seasons Sports Complex, Carlton. The auction will begin at 11:30 a.m. Ticket sales start at 12:15 p.m., with bingo to begin at 1 p.m. Only cash will be accepted. No registration is required and participation is on a first come, first served basis. People must be age 21 or older to participate. There will be 10 bingo games for $100, five raffle drawings for five guns with tickets at $10 each. Hot dogs and brats will be for sale, and there will also be a cash bar. Proceeds will benefit the Forgotten Heroes Ranges and Retreat in McGregor.

Food preservation is a major component in being able to enjoy the spoils of the garden for months to come.
