Commanders rookie QB Sam Howell will only eat chicken, has never had a burger or steak

Sam Howell's entry into the NFL means a whole new fanbase gets to discover the new Washington Commanders quarterback's eating quirk.

The man will only eat chicken, mostly tenders and nuggets. And he has never had a burger or a steak.

This fact first emerged via WTVD's Mark Armstrong in Dec. 2020 when Howell was starring at UNC and came back into notoriety on Tuesday, when 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen threw it back out there.

The full details, as reported by Armstrong from a virtual Orange Bowl luncheon:

In the interview, Howell revealed that since childhood, he has only ever eaten chicken. Mostly nuggets and tenders. That's fine for a 4-year old, but so far into adulthood, Howell has seen no need to deviate. He won't get anywhere near seafood and — read carefully here — claims to have never had a bite of steak or even so much as a hamburger.

To repeat, Howell, who is now 21 years old, has limited his meat consumption to chicken that has been thrown in a blender and deep-fried, for no other reason beyond his preference. Maybe that has changed in the last year and a half, in which Howell has gone from a promising sophomore to an NFL roster.

Howell was seen for a long time as a potential first-round draft pick, up to when he declared for the 2022 NFL draft this year, and was even thrown as a potential top 2 pick at times. That did not work out, as Howell ended up falling all the way to the fifth round as part of a quarterback class which teams clearly found to be weak.

Howell still has much more hype than your average fifth-round quarterback, especially with the Commanders depth chart Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke, but he has some ground to make up before being considered a future star again.

Meanwhile, the guy who revealed Howell's eating habits to the world is also a little confused about how the NFL world is suddenly talking about this.
