Colts hopeful Kenny Moore II will be back for do-or-die Texans game

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts survived star Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams without Kenny Moore II in the lineup on Sunday.

But they would love to get him back in the lineup for Saturday night’s do-or-die game against rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans.

Moore is dealing with a back injury that ended up being a bigger problem than he expected, put him on the injury list late last week and ultimately kept him out of Sunday’s win over Las Vegas.

“We’ll see how the week progresses,” Indianapolis head coach Steichen said. “Hopefully, he’ll be good to go this week. We’ll see how it goes.”

Moore tried to play against the Raiders.

In fact, he was still trying to play hours before kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“He was a game-time (decision), he worked out before the game,” Steichen said. “Just couldn’t give it a go.”

A young Indianapolis secondary badly needs Moore back in the lineup, considering that veteran strong safety Julian Blackmon has been placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury suffered against Atlanta.

The Colts coaching staff moved Ronnie Harrison from linebacker to strong safety last week to give the Indianapolis back end a veteran presence, but Moore has been a starter for this Colts defense a lot longer than Harrison.

“He’s one of those guys where he’s like another coach, in a sense,” rookie cornerback JuJu Brents said. “You could see yesterday, there would be a couple plays, I’d be on the far sideline, and Kenny’s right there, giving me feedback.”

Indianapolis also needs Moore’s skills in the lineup.

The veteran nickel ranks second on the Colts with 91 tackles and three interceptions, and he’s added eight tackles-for-loss and 1.5 sacks. Moore has also been solid in coverage, allowing opposing passers to post just 5.8 yards per attempt and a 71.8 quarterback rating in throws against him this season, according to Sports Info Solutions.

“His skills speak for themselves,” Brents said.

And with Blackmon out, Moore’s been the most consistent presence in the lineup. He has played 1,032 of a possible 1,115 snaps this season, even with the game missed against Las Vegas.

Indianapolis would love to get him back for a huge game on Saturday night.
