Colon beats up Burton Atherton, 60-26

The Colon Magi traveled all the way over to Flint on Friday night. They were supposed to head to Gaylord to play Eben Junction Superior Central, but that game was canceled. Instead of sitting at home, Colon found a game against Burton Atherton and headed there on Friday night.

The Magi clobbered the Wolverines, 60-26. With the victory, the No. 2 Magi improve to 7-0 on the season.

Colon held an edge in first downs (21-9), rushing yards (127-8), passing yards (316-248) and total yards at 443-256. The Magi also won the time of possession at 25:32-22:28.

Simon Vinson threw for six TDs in the game on 37 attempts. He completed 22 of those for 198 yards as well.Justin Wickey caught the first two TDs in the opening quarter. One was a 6-yard TD, the other was a 93-yard TD. Both came in the span of just over two minutes and Colon led 14-0 early.

The Magi would also score in the opening quarter on Vinson TDs to Conner Hetman for 45 yards and Kyle Muntian for 14 yards.

The Magi even kicked a field goal in the game.

It came in the second quarter where Alessandro Vanalli booted a 39-yard field goal through the uprights. Tucker Lafler would run a 4-yard TD as well and Colon led 38-12 at halftime.

In the third, Blake Vanderstraaten caught an 11-yard TD pass from Vinson.

Hunter Jones then brought in a 4-yard TD pass from Vinson later in the quarter, that put the game at 52-12.Colon’s final score came in the fourth. There, Muntian hauled in an 18-yard TD pass from Maverick Downs.

Lafler led the rushing attack with 50 yards and the TD, Downs rushed for 48 and Vinson added 26.Downs completed both of his passes for 18 yards.

Hetman hauled in eight catches for 72 yards, Wickey caught seven for 160 with two scores. Muntain caught three passes for 32 with the two scores, Vanderstraaten hauled in 21 yards on two catches. Lafler caught two for 15, Hunter Jones caught the one for a 4-yard TD and Owen Wilson nabbed one for two yards.

Lafler led the defense with 13 tackles, including four sacks and six official tackles for loss. Downs made seven stops, Wilson collected six and recovered a fumble. Hetman, Kaleb Thaxton and Jacob Bower all had four tackles.

Muntian intercepted a pass.

Tekonsha 62, Burr Oak 6

Tekonsha beat Burr Oak 62-6 on Friday night.

Ethan Boyle finished with 62 yards rushing and the lone touchdown in the game for the Bobcats.

Senior captains Aidan Calvert, Grant Brooks and Flavio Hernandez continue to lead the young Bobcats, coach Vince Royer said.

Marcellus 37, Concord 14

Marcellus moved to 5-2 on the season with a convincing win on homecoming, 37-14, over Concord.

In the game, Cole Thornburgh rumbled for three touchdowns. He also had 41 yards receiving in the game. Dawsen Lehew rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown for the Cats. He also had three tackles for loss on the defensive end.

Parker Adams finished completing six of his seven passes for 69 yards. He also rushed for 26 and scored once.

Mendon 53, Bangor 0

Mendon piled up 53 points in a runaway victory over visiting Bangor on Friday, 53-0.

The Hornets scored in all four quarters in the game. With the victory, they improve to 5-2 overall with a fourth straight win. In those four wins, the Hornets have allowed just 14 total points to their opponents.

On Friday, Mendon scored four times in the first quarter.

The first was on a 21-yard run from Jack McCaw to make it 6-0. That came at the 9:43 mark.

In the next eight minutes, the Hornets would get TD runs of 21 and 31 yards from Evan Lukeman. Mendon also tossed a TD pass. Luke Schinker connected with Gabe Haigh on the 47-yard pass for the points.

Up 28-0, Mendon went back to the ground game in the second.

The Hornets would score twice, which built the lead to 43-0. The first TD came from McCaw on a 22-yard scamper. The second would see Owen Gorham find the end zone on a 1-yard TD plunge.

During the second half, Mendon scored 10 points. The first was on a 46-yard TD run from McCaw in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Jorge Casanova would boot a field goal through the uprights. It was a 23-yard field goal that came at the 11:30 mark of the fourth.

Mendon out-gained Bangor 463-105 in the game. The Hornets piled up 416 yards on the ground in the game.

One pass was completed by the Hornets — the 47-yard TD from Schinker to Haigh.

McCaw led the rushing attack with 123 yards on six carries, Lukeman ran for 113 yards on nine carries while Gorham added 79 yards rushing. Mason Wilczynski ran for 49 yards.

The defense was led by Nic Stiver, Lux and Crotser with five tackles each. Lukeman and McCaw both had four tackles. Haigh caused a fumble that was recovered by Stiver.
