College sports shooting: OHS grad Kirubakaran leads IHCC sports shooting squad

Oct. 7—WATERLOO — The Indian Hills Sports Shooting squad dropped a narrow decision to Hawkeye Community College on Friday, falling 475-469 in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Trap dual at the Waterloo Izaak Walton League.

In its tightest score in recent memory between the two ICCAC East Division foes, the Warriors came up just short despite a number of impressive individual performances on the range. Current IHCC freshman and former Ottumwa standout Zane Kirubakaran placed third overall after tying for second in regulation while Albia native Emma Bradley and Haley Byrge took second and third overall in the ladies division, respectively.

The Warriors move to 1-2 in ICCAC action while the Redtails remain unbeaten at 3-0 on the year. Indian Hills has posted back-to-back solid efforts overall in the Trap discipline and are averaging 471 targets per contest this season.

Kirubakaran finished with 96 targets on the day, the second-most before falling in a shootout. The freshman closed out the day with back-to-back rounds of 25 to force the shootout.

Cody Carroll, another Ottumwa native, posted a 95 followed by Davis County graduate Luke Farley's 94. Aidan Eischen posted three consecutive rounds of 24 to finish the day with a 93 while Mason Herrington rounded out the top-five with 91 targets on the day.

Bradley took second overall in the ladies division a season-best performance of 91 targets followed by Byrge's 84.
