College sports in Lenawee from Jan. 22-27

The Adrian College men's wrestling team is off to a 2-0 start in MIAA duals as the Bulldogs look to repeat as league champions.

On Tuesday, Adrian hosted Alma and beat the Scots, 46-4, as it improved to 3-0 in duals overall on the season.

Alma began the dual with a major decision win at 125, but it was all Bulldogs from there as Tyler Davis (133 pounds), Blaise Kokkales (149), Zachary Platte (157), Jackson Beck-Calvert (197) and Mason Slocum (285) all got pins while Tanner Smith (141) and Blake Williams (174) got tech falls and Trenton DiGenova (165) and Dylan Wellbaum (184) won by decisions.

Here's how the rest of the Adrian and Siena Heights teams faired this week:

ADRIAN

Men's Basketball

The Bulldogs won back-to-back games for the first time this season as it followed up an 86-52 win against Olivet with a 75-66 victory against Kalamazoo in MIAA play.

Nick Seifert led the way with 18 points, four rebounds, a block and an assist while DJ Morrow had 16 points, three assists and a block and Braylon Dickerson had 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Women's Basketball

The Bulldogs snapped a six-game losing streak as it beat Kalamazoo, 75-56, in MIAA play.

Kylie Skidmore had a big game with 20 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block. Kiaya Warner had 19 points, an assist, block and steal while Ashlyn Weatherly had 13 points, seven rebounds and a block and Bailey Taylor had 11 points, eight rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Men's Hockey

The Bulldogs rolled against NCHA newcomer Dubuque, 8-1, on Friday at home.

Jaden Shields had a big game with a hat trick and an assist while Connor May and Ian Amsbaugh had three assists and a goal. Jacob Suede had a goal and an assist while Mathew Rheding and Alec Lovisek each had a goal.

Casey Gerstein had two assists while Ryan Pitoscia, Matt Couto and Bradley Somers had an assist. Nolan Suggs made 16 saves in the win.

The Bulldogs followed it up with a 6-0 win on Saturday with Suede, Rheding and Zachary Heintz each scoring a goal and getting an assist while Ryan Velluci, John Kaljian and Gerstein all scored a goal. Shields and Couto each had two assists while Ben Loreto, Anton Sorenson and Matthew Gough all had one.

Dershahn Stewart made 13 saves in the shutout.

Women's Hockey

The Bulldogs came one goal shy of a program record at Dubuque as they gave the NCHA newcomers a rude welcoming, 14-1.

Zoe Lohrei had two goals and three assists while Maya Roy had two goals and two assists, Kaleigh Cadorette had two goals and an assist and Jocelin Hudanish had two goals.

Une Bjelland had one goal and five assists, which tied a program record, while Kathryn Truban and Karmen Anderson each had a goal and four assists. Aileena Dopheide had a goal and two assists while Hunter Reardon had a goal and Callie Wollschlager had an assist.

Vanessa Ruban made eight saves in the win.

Adrian followed it up with a 9-1 win on Saturday with Truban scoring twice while Gia Avalone and Wollschlager had a goal and two assists and Bjelland had a goal and an assist. Annika Hanson, Saige Biddle, Nicole Pietrucha and Roy all scored once.

Anderson had three assists while Lindsey Sorrell and Tia Lascelle had two and Hudanish, Dopheide and Olivia Marcinkowski had one.

Annie Gilbert made nine saves.

Men's Volleyball

The Bulldogs snapped their five-game losing streak to start the season as they swept the day at the Hiram tri-match, beating the hosts in five sets, 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 15-13, after beating St. Vincent in four, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-17.

Chase Heuer had 45 kills, 13 digs, four aces and a block while Andrew Gawrisch had 50 assists, 22 digs, six aces and a block. Beck Fieldhouse had 27 kills and four blocks.

Track and Field

The Bulldogs men took third at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic while the women took fourth overall.

Getting wins for the men were Cameron Overmyer in the pole vault (4.16 meters) while the women got a win from Emme Koutz in the mile (5:22.61).

SIENA HEIGHTS

Women's Basketball

The Saints keep rolling as they picked up their 17th-straight win on Wednesday, beating Lourdes at home, 71-53, in WHAC play before getting No. 18 on Saturday against Madonna, 74-42.

SHU had five in double figures against Lourdes with Olivia DeLong posting 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist while Jakarri Alven had 12 points, five rebounds and a steal. Kayla Hinton had 11 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals while Jillian Gelso had 11 points and five rebounds and Madison Vice had 11 points as well.

Against Madonna, the Saints (18-2, 13-1 WHAC) shut out the Crusaders in the final 10 minutes as the defense shut down the Crusaders all game.

Hinton had 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals while Alven had 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block and DeLong added 10 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double with two steals and an assist.

Men's Basketball

The Saints had a two-game win streak ended Wednesday as they lost to Lourdes, 71-61.

SHU trailed 39-35 at the half and started the second half with a 9-2 run to go up 44-41 before the Saints and Gray Wolves went back and forth until Lourdes went on a 7-0 run with 5:35 to go to pull ahead for the win.

Delano Williams had 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal while Jonas Tester went for 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Shawn Brown score 11 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double and two steals, and Max Moratinos had 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and a block.

The Saints (8-12, 5-9 WHAC) battled with Madonna, one of the top teams in the WHAC, all game but fell 66-64.

Willams hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, 64-64, with 58 seconds left before the Crusaders got a lay-in with 36 to go.

The Saints missed a 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining, fouled, got the rebound on the missed free throw, missed another 3-pointer, got the offensive board and missed a final shot at the buzzer to tie the game.

Williams had 16 points, three rebounds and a block for SHU.

Track and Field

The Saints men's and women's teams each took second at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic, both finishing behind the host Chargers.

Getting wins for the women were Emma Valentine in the high jump (1.7), Hope Wilkes in the 5,000 (20:42.81), Faith Jackson in the 60 hurdles (8.82) and Linnearia Richards in the 400 (59.97) while the men got a win from Matthew Gipple in the long jump (7.33).
