College notes: Utica’s Londot earns Big Ten honor for Buckeyes

Emily Londot again is a dominant force for the Ohio State women’s volleyball team.

The Utica graduate racked up 57 kills in three matches to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors. Londot led the Buckeyes to victories against host Northern Kentucky, Bowling Green and East Tennessee State during the NKU Invitational to begin her senior season.

Londot recorded 26 of her kills in a five-set victory against Bowling Green. She ranks in the program’s top 20 for career kills, points and block assists.

The No. 12 Buckeyes host No. 20 Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.

Basham sparks Eagles

Samantha Basham nearly rallied the Eastern Michigan volleyball team to a victory at Bradley on Sunday.

The Newark Catholic graduate tied for a team high with 15 kills as the Eagles won the second set before dropping the third and fourth sets by two points apiece.

Basham, a senior, is knocking on the door of 1,000 career kills. She earned Mid-American Conference honors her sophomore season and led the Eagles in kills as a junior.

Rogers starts fast

Ella Rogers has boosted the Xavier women’s soccer team to an impressive start.

The Granville graduate scored the first goal and assisted on the second in the Musketeers’ 2-0 victory against Louisville on Aug. 20. It highlighted a 3-1 start for Xavier.

Rogers, a junior, led Xavier in assists and finished third in points, earning Big East honors last season. She scored twice in the NCAA Tournament.

Castillo contributing

Lindsey Castillo quickly found a role for the IUPUI women’s soccer team.

The Watkins Memorial graduate had an assist in a 2-0 victory against Southern Illinois on Aug. 20. Castillo, a freshman, has attempted eight shots off the bench in four matches.

Farnsworth breaks ice

Ali Farnsworth made her college debut a memorable one.

The Newark graduate scored a goal in the Mount Vernon Nazarene women’s soccer team’s 5-0 victory against West Virginia Tech on Aug. 19.
