Technical difficulties have delayed the announcement of this week’s the Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week and for that we are extremely sorry. But it appears as though the bugs have been worked out and we are back on track, so without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, we are pleased to announce that this week’s The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week as sponsored by ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital, Omega Physical Therapy, and Coldwater Chiropractic and Wellness Center is Coldwater freshman Rylie VanAken who received 46% of the vote.

This is VanAken’s second TDR Athlete of the Week honor this spring, and although we here at The Daily Reporter like to spread the wealth around, the Cardinals softball rookie could not be ignored for what she did last week on the softball diamond.

VanAken helped her Coldwater Cardinals to a 5-1 weeklong record, finishing the week batting a robust 14 for 20 at the plate, recording five singles, four doubles, two triples and three home runs to go along with 14 RBis and 16 runs scored.

Earning runner-up honors with 26% of the vote this week was Coldwater track and field star Elli Foley.

Foley had a huge week for her Cardinal track team, breaking the long standing CHS school record in the shot put not just once, but twice in a busy week down in the pits. Foley first broke the record in a I-8 dual meet versus Harper Creek, winning with a new record throw of 39 feet, 1.5 inches. Foley also took third place in the discus in the dual. Foley went on to outdo herself Saturday at Williamston’s Mitch Lutzke Invite, breaking the shot-put record again in a victory, bringing home the gold and a new school record with a throw of 40 feet, 5.5 inches. Foley also finished with runner-up honors in the discus on the day.

Also earning votes in this week’s running for The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week was Bronson’s Jaiden Hayes, Quincy’s Sophia Snellenberger, Quincy’s Payton Gross, Quincy’s Kallie Glei, and Union City’s Logan Cole.

Congratulations goes out once again to Coldwater softball’s Rylie VanAken, this week’s The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week as sponsored by ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital, Omega Physical Therapy, and Coldwater Chiropractic and Wellness Center.
