Coldwater XC caps off regular season at I-8 Championship

MARSHALL, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal Cross Country program traveled to beautiful Turkeyville in Marshall on Saturday to compete in the Interstate 8 Conference Championship, ending their 2022 regular season schedule.

In the women’s portion of the championship it was the team from Jackson Lumen Christi winning the championship with a total score of 32 points. Harper Creek finished in second place with 63 points, followed by Marshall in third place with 72 points. Parma Western finished fourth with 96 points, followed by Northwest in fifth with 133 points and Coldwater in sixth place with 142 points.

Coldwater had one runner earn Interstate 8 All Conference honors as sophomore Lainey Yearling finished in ninth place overall, earning the top 10 finish in a time of 21 minutes, 13.8 seconds.

Sophomore Abigail Robison finished just inside the top 30, crossing the line in twenty- ninth place in a time of 23 minutes, 32.3 seconds. Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Eysha Chavez in thirty-fifth place in a time of 23 minutes, 57.9 seconds; Macy Stout in fifty-first place in a time of 25 minutes, 33.6 seconds; Taylor West in sixty-sixth place in a time of 27 minutes, 4.6 seconds; and Heidi Katz in seventy-third place in a time of 28 minutes, 44.0 seconds.

The individual championship went to Lumen Christi junior Madison Osterberg who finished in the gold medal position by over a full minute, winning with a time of 18 minutes, 21.0 seconds. Finishing in second place was her Lumen Christi teammate Macy Fazekas who finished in second place in a time of 19 minutes, 47.2 seconds.

In the men’s race it was Harper Creek taking home the conference title, winning the event with a score of 54 points. Marshall finished in a second place overall just four points back with a score of 58 points. Parma Western finished in third place with 71 points, followed by Hastings in fourth with 79 points; Lumen Christi in fifth place with 120 points; Coldwater in sixth place with 150 points; Pennfield in seventh place with 208 points; and Northwest in eighth place with 211 points.

Coldwater had one runner finish in the top 10, earning Interstate 8 All Conference honors. Finishing in fifth place to pace the Cardinal effort was senior Haroon Omar who crossed the line in a time of 17 minutes, 0.00 seconds.

Earning a top 20 spot in a very competitive field was junior James DeWitt who crossed the line in nineteenth place in a time of 18 minutes, 2.9 seconds. Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Ethan Parker in forty-second place in a time of 19 minutes, 36.6 seconds; Aiden Parker in fifty-eighth place in a time 20 minutes, 39.9 seconds; Hunter Barnett in seventieth place in a time of 22 minutes, 14.4 seconds; Skiler Horn in seventy-sixth place in a time of 23 minutes, 24.5 seconds; Kaleb Miller in eighty-third place in a time of 25 minutes, 48.3 seconds; and Kazzier Lindblom in eighty-eighth place in a time of 28 minuets, 15.5 seconds.

Winning the overall individual title was Harper Creek sophomore Dominic Lowrie who finished in first place with a blistering time of 15 minutes, 59.4 seconds.

Coldwater will next see action on Saturday when they travel to Bangor for the MHSAA Division Two Regional Meet.
