Coldwater swim wins 10 of 12 in rout of Battle Creek Central

COLDWATER – The Coldwater swim and dive team kept its unbeaten Interstate 8 record intact with a 123-53 win over the Battle Creek Central co-op team in a SMAC and I-8 conference dual.

Coldwater was dominant in the pool on Tuesday, winning 10 of the 12 events.

Coldwater had three individual double event winners in the pool as Ayla McCowan took a win in the 100-yard butterfly and a win in the 100-yard breaststroke; Olivia Boland won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke; and Sienna Losinski won both the 50 and 100 freestyle swims.

Coldwater senior diving ace Charlotte Calhoun continued her dominance on the diving board, taking another win in the 1-meter dive.

Also on the 1-meter board it was Sofia Gruner qualifying for the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) Dive Regionals with her fourth qualifying finish over another team on the season, thanks to her second-place finish.

Notable swimmers for Coldwater included Calhoun with a fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke; Gabby Bookmyer, third place in the 50 freestyle and second place in the 100 butterfly; Jossy Martinez, fourth place in the 200 individual medley and third place in the 500 freestyle; Bri Barle, fifth place in the 100 freestyle; Carly Krzyzanski, second in the 200 freestyle and second in the 500 freestyle; Macy Poradzisz, third place in the 1-meter dive; Sid Aseltine, second in the 200 individual medley and third place in the 100 backstroke; Ambriah Lewis, third in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle; Danika Harris, fourth in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle; Korrin Brown, third in the 100 butterfly and second in the 100 breaststroke; and Callie Jones, fourth place in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

Adding to the Cardinal win was a first-place finish in all three relay events, in addition to two third place finishes and a second-place finish.

Taking first place in the 200-medley relay was the team of Boland, McCowan, Aseltine and Calhoun while the team of Brown, Martinez, Bookmyer and Barle took third.

The 200-freestyle relay team of Lewis, McCowan, Krzyzanski, and Losinski took a win in that event while the team of Brown, Gruner, Jones, and Poradzisz finished in second.

The final relay event, the 400 freestyle, saw the team of Losinski, Lewis, Aseltine, and Boland take first place while the team of Krzyzanski, Bookmyer, Martinez and Harris took third.

The Coldwater swim and dive team will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Battle Creek for the Harper Creek Invitational.
