Coby White could be better off moving on from Chicago Bulls

Heading into the summer, the Chicago Bulls only have six players on guaranteed contracts. There are two more players who have options and another two on non-guaranteed deals, but the point is, Chicago has some serious roster decisions to make this offseason. Their roster needs to be filled out and improved.

A big part of that plan will involve bringing back all of the guys who are free agents. Or at least the ones they plan on having in Chicago for the future. Of all the players who will be free agents, Coby White remains an interesting case. And according to Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report, he’s one of the free agents around the league who could thrive in a new situation.

White spent the first two seasons of his career growing, earning the starting job for the majority of his sophomore season. However, once the Bulls made the shift toward competing for a championship, White earned fewer and fewer minutes. Now, Hughes thinks he could be better off on a new squad.

“White has excellent positional size at 6’5”, reps as a primary ball-handler and secondary scorer, an 85.4 percent career free-throw percentage that suggests his 36.7 percent hit rate from deep will climb and promising per-minute numbers for his age.

“The only thing he needs to bust out is a chance to play someplace that doesn’t have well-compensated All-Stars and All-Defensive team members ahead of him in the pecking order.” Hughes wrote.

At just 23 years old, White still has plenty of room to grow, and a new situation where he could earn regular minutes and have the freedom to play his game could be what’s best for him.
