Coach Kevin Kuwik, Army men's basketball to open Nov. 6 vs. Marist at Christl Arena

New Army men’s basketball coach Kevin Kuwik will make his debut on Monday, November 6, when Mid-Hudson rival Marist College visits Christl Arena.

The spotlight game is a Nov. 12 contest at Indiana and the famed Alumni Hall, the first matchup between the programs. Legendary coach Bob Knight coached at Army (two years as assistant, head coach from 1965-71) before moving on to lead the Hoosiers (1971-2000). Indiana is also the home state for Army returnees Matt Dove, Charlie Peterson and Blake Barker.

“I’m really excited about the Indiana game,’’ Kuwik said. “That’s a special state that loves hoops and is a special place to play, a good venue.’’

Army will play seven non-conference games in November and six in December. The games with Stony Brook and Stonehill are return contests from last season. The series with Albany, Marist and Binghamton emphasizes Kuwik’s regional approach to scheduling; they are part of four-year deals. Texas San Antonio will make a visit to West Point next season. Kuwik said he will try to schedule road games near the hometowns of his players.

Army’s 34th season of Patriot League action begins Jan. 3 at Lafayette.

Army will play Navy on Jan. 20 in Annapolis and Feb. 10 at West Point – both games will likely be televised by CBS Sports Network. Defending regular-season and playoff champion Colgate will visit Christl Arena on Jan. 17.

The league schedule is subject to change, with most start times to be added later.

Army is playing two schools that reached the NCAA tournament: Indiana bowed to eventual semifinalist Miami in the second round; Colgate bowed to Texas in the first round.
