Close scores defined this year's Bartlesville City Golf Championship
One word describes last weekend's Jim Curd Sr. Bartlesville City Championship golf tournament.

A final-hole birdie was needed to determine one of the championships while another had to be decided in overtime.
Bob Reilly won the overall senior division in a playoff with Clint Hill on the first hole, noted Adams Golf Course Manager Jerry Benedict, while in the Championship Flight, Joel Smith won with a 15-foot putt on the final hole.

Smith followed the tortoise syndrome (as in "The Tortoise and the Hare") of slow and steady. He didn't burn up the course during a big second round of 71, but he didn't keep on chipping away, so to speak. He parred the first eight holes and then finished up with two bogeys and three birdies on his way to the title.
"My goal was I was going to try to break par and see where that put me," he said.
It sealed the first-ever Bartlesville city championship for Smith, who grew up in Bartlesville and now lives in Edmond. But, he comes back every year to play in the tourney.
A couple of impressive final-day showings highlighted the Championship Flight. Smith stood tied for sixth (76) after the first day while Lynn Rowland, who finished tied for second (148), improved by 10 strokes on the second day (79-69).
Other winners included Scott Farmer (senior net division) and Terry Trammell (first flight).
