Clemson’s all-time series record against 2024 opponents

How does Clemson match up historically against each opponent on the team’s 2024 schedule?

Entering the season, Clemson has the third highest winning percentage all-time among ACC schools at .624 percent. The Tigers trail only Florida State (.669) and Miami (.626) in that category.

The Hurricanes have the most national titles of any school in the ACC with five. Clemson and Florida State are tied for second with three apiece. But recent history is on the Tigers’ side, given their 2016 and 2018 national championship seasons — and their bids for two more in 2015 and 2019.

The makeup of Clemson’s 2024 schedule includes seven home games (vs. Appalachian State, NC State, Stanford, Virginia, Louisville, The Citadel, and South Carolina), four road games (at Florida State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Pitt), and one neutral-site game (vs. Georgia in Atlanta).

Here’s a look at how Clemson fares in all-time head to head series play against every opponent on the team’s 2024 schedule.

SERIES HISTORY

There’s plenty of history between these two schools, which are located 78 miles apart. The Tigers and Bulldogs met almost every year from 1962-1987 and didn’t fully stop playing annually until 1991. They also met each year from 1897-1932. This year’s contest will mark the fourth meeting between the schools since 2013.

Georgia leads the all-time series, 43-18-4. The Bulldogs have won six of the last seven meetings dating back to 1991.

LAST MEETING

September 4, 2021

GEORGIA 10, CLEMSON 3 — The Bulldogs won a defensive struggle at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium to open the 2021 season. Chris Smith’s 74-yard pick six off a DJ Uiagalelei pass late in the first half was the difference-maker.

SERIES HISTORY

The Tigers and Mountaineers have met only five times. The Tigers opened their home schedule against Appalachian State in 1984, 1991, and again in 1997.

Clemson leads the all-time head to head series, 5-0.

LAST MEETING

September 12, 2015

CLEMSON 41, APPALACHIAN STATE 10 — Deshaun Watson threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers’ second game of the 2015 season. Wayne Gallman added 79 yards on the ground.

SERIES HISTORY

Clemson has a couple of revenge games on its 2024 schedule, and the first one is its home contest vs. NC State. The Wolfpack upended the Tigers last year at Carter-Finley Stadium in a game that marked the low point of the season for Dabo Swinney’s team — and subsequently led to Swinney’s epic on-air rant on his weekly radio program the following Monday.

Clemson leads the all-time series, 60-30-1. The Wolfpack have won two of the past three meetings after Clemson had won 15 of 16 in the series from 2004-2019.

LAST MEETING

October 28, 2023

NC STATE 24, CLEMSON 17 — The Tigers never led in this game and their offense struggled to find consistency all day. Part of that was likely due to the loss of Will Shipley, who was injured in the first half and didn’t return. KC Concepcion had two touchdown catches, including a back-breaking 72-yard catch-and-run score, to give NC State consecutive wins over Clemson in Raleigh.

Stanford Cardinal (September 28, Clemson Memorial Stadium)

Clemson has a new opponent on its schedule this year thanks to conference realignment/expansion. Stanford will visit Death Valley on the final Saturday of September in what will be the first regular-season meeting between the two schools. The Tigers and Cardinal have met only once before on the gridiron.

SERIES HISTORY

LAST MEETING

September 23, 2023

FLORIDA STATE 31, CLEMSON 24 — Jordan Travis threw a perfect pass to Keon Coleman in overtime to lead the Seminoles to their first win in Death Valley since 2013. The Tigers held Rattler to just 112 passing yards, and Jonathan Weitz connected on three field goals, including a career-long 50-yarder, to give Clemson its eighth win in the past nine meetings against South Carolina.

When the schools last met in Death Valley in 2022, the Gamecocks knocked off a Clemson team that was 10-1 and ranked No. 7 in the polls with an outside shot at the College Football Playoff.
