Circle K has increased its involvement in First Coast golf with JAGA sponsorship deals

Circle K has stepped up to support two of the Jacksonville Area Golf Association’s most important functions.

The South Atlantic division of the convenience store chain will be the lead sponsor of JAGA’s Scholarship Trust Classic, which raises money for financial assistance for area college students.

Circle K also will be the presenting sponsor for the Celebration of Golf Banquet, which will be Feb. 21, 2024 at the Timuquana Country Club.

Circle K also is a presenting sponsor of the PGA Tour Champions Furyk & Friends.

JAGA also announced that it will raise the annual amount for financial assistance for scholarship winners from $2,000 to $2,500.

Bring the family for golf, holiday fun

The JAGA Family Championship is still open for new entries. The tournament will be Dec. 16 at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

Any combination of family members for the two-player scramble event is welcome. There are gross and net divisions with two-tee starts at 7:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Chloe Schiavone will transfer

Two-time Times-Union high school player of the year Chloe Schiavone is on target to graduate from Notre Dame with a marketing degree next spring and plans to transfer to the University of Virginia to compete for their 2024-25 golf team.

Schiavone recently finished in third place in the St. Andrews Intercollegiate Tournament.

Schiavone has also qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball for the fifth time in six years. She and Irish teammate Montgomery Ferreira won a qualifier at the Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Golf Club in Rockford, Ill., with a 68 that included Schiavone holing out for an eagle-two at the final hole, from 155 yards out.

The U.S. Women’s Four-Ball is May 11-15 at the Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Tournament dates set

The 33rd Underwood Cup Matches between the Northern Chapter PGA professionals and First Coast Amateurs will be Feb. 5-6 at the Timuquana Country Club. … The First Coast Women’s Amateur will be July 22-24 at the Plantation at Ponte Vedra Beach. … Volunteers are needed for the PGA Tour Q-School, which will be Dec. 11-17 at the TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley and the Sawgrass Country Club.
