Chiefs TE Travis Kelce likens himself to Al Bundy after four-touchdown game

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce posted a unique stat line during “Monday Night Football” against the Las Vegas Raiders, one that is getting him compared to an iconic television character.

Kelce finished the game with seven catches for 25 yards and four touchdowns. Why so few yards to go along with the scores? Patrick Mahomes said Raiders HC Josh McDaniels stole the game plan from his old employers.

“They had a good game plan of kind of that old New England, hit him off the line of scrimmage, double cover him and stuff like that,” Mahomes said.

It didn’t work against Kelce in the red zone, though. He scored four touchdowns and none over 10 yards receiving. He became the 42nd player in NFL history to catch four touchdowns in a game and the third to do it for the Chiefs along with Jamaal Charles (2013) and Frank Jackson (1964). He also joins Mike Ditka, Kellen Winslow and Jimmie Giles as the only tight ends to ever score four or more touchdowns in a single game.

When fans started making the connection on Twitter, Kelce called Bundy (who is played by actor Ed O’Neill) a “role model” and welcomed the comparison.

Bundy, of course, scored four touchdowns in the 1966 city championship game between his Polk High School Panthers and Andrew Johnson High School. In the final seconds of the game, he scored a game-winner against his old nemesis, ‘Spare Tire’ Dixon, who is played by former NFL Pro Bowl Defensive End Bubba Smith in the episode “All-Nite Security Dude.”

I’m not sure that Kelce’s performance was quite as dramatic, but the comparison seems to be one he approves of. Who are we to deny it?
