Chiefs sign No. 1 pick Fisher
The Kansas City Chiefs signed No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher on Friday before the start of training camp, the team announced.
The five-year deal is worth $22.2 million and includes a $15.5 million bonus, ESPN reported. The numbers are in line with the previous two top picks in the NFL Draft and follow the league's new rookie wage scale.
The deal was wrapped up in time for Fisher to praticipate in the first day of practice during training camp. He was the last of the Chiefs' eight 2013 draft picks to sign.
The offensive tackle from Central Michigan could start his rookie season on the right side for the Chiefs. Coach Andy Reid has indicated that he might keep franchise-tag player Branden Albert at left tackle.
In April. Fisher became only the fourth offensive lineman to be selected with the first overall pick in the NFL draft.
Fisher enrolled at Central Michigan as a 230-pound lineman after being snubbed by Big Ten teams and offered only one other scholarship -- from Eastern Michigan. He quickly grew into the anchor of the Chippewas' offensive line and solidified his status as a potential top pick by dominating at the Senior Bowl in January. His climb continued at the 2013 Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, where his on-field position workout and athletic tests were better than most at his position, including a 5.05 40-yard dash.
Fisher was primarily a left tackle at CMU. He started 32 career games, including four at right tackle.
