Should the Chicago Bulls target Chis Paul this offseason?
The Chicago Bulls have some serious roster construction to do this summer if they hope to be in the playoff mix next year. They were eliminated in the Play-In Tournament this past season, but Arturas Karnisovas is intent on keeping the same core together and avoiding a rebuild. If that’s the path he chooses to go down, he will need to improve the roster.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Phoenix Suns are considering all options regarding Chris Paul’s future with the franchise, and Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and TNT reported that the Suns will be waiving him.
If Paul hits the open market this summer, should the Bulls be in the mix of teams looking to bring him on board? Absolutely they should.
Two years ago, the Bulls committed to winning. They ended their rebuild, trading for Nikola Vucevic and signing for DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Lonzo Ball the following summer. Unfortunately, they’ve only made the playoffs in one of two seasons since then.
A big part of that has been Ball’s injury struggles. And with him out, it’s never been more clear that Chicago needs a point guard leading their offense. That’s where Paul comes in.
If the Suns waive Paul, the Bulls should offer him their full MLE in an attempt to lure him to Chicago. Paul reportedly wants to join a championship contender, which the Bulls are not, as of now, but he would be the perfect fit next to DeRozan and Zach LaVine.
