Chelsea: Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah move closer to exit despite team-mate fears

Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah are expected to move closer to Chelsea exits in the wake of Mauricio Pochettino's departure.

Pochettino was ready to fight hard to keep Gallagher and Chalobah at the club, while Blues chiefs are prepared to listen to offers for the homegrown duo.

The Argentine's departure by mutual consent on Tuesday has left midfielder Gallagher and defender Chalobah more vulnerable to being sold.

Chelsea's players are thought to fear losing two talented and impactful team-mates, who are both hard-working and low-maintenance professionals.

Blues fan Gallagher wants to stay at Chelsea but is about to enter the final year of his contract.

The England midfielder became a mainstay under Pochettino, impressing in a holding role and taking the captain's armband when club skipper Reece James was unavailable.

Chalobah shook off an injury-hit campaign by completing the term in style, retaining his fitness and form and proving his Premier League pedigree.

The 24-year-old has four years left on his Chelsea contract and is also understood to want to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham have long tracked Gallagher's progress, though they could be put off by Chelsea's expected valuation of £50million for the 24-year-old.

Fulham could be among the suitors for Chalobah and they may soon be in the market for a centre-back, given Tosin Adarabioyo's impending free-transfer exit. Manchester United have joined Newcastle in the race to sign the 26-year-old former Manchester City youth star.

Chalobah is likely to consider a move only to a side playing European football, however.

Chelsea have spent more than £1billion on players since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital takeover of May 2022. The Blues chiefs are determined to continue investing in the squad and have also recouped £400m through player sales.

Chelsea must comply with Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR), with a June 30 deadline approaching for clubs to be analysed.

Stamford Bridge chiefs have always been confident in adhering to financial rules, though, and deny that any activity is based on PSR.
