Checking in on Raiders own free agents after last minute flurry of re-signings

Whenever you hear a pending free agent will “test free agency” it sounds a lot like they will be gone. But that isn’t always the case. Many times it ends up working out.

In many cases, the team puts their offer on the table, the player’s camp says they want to see what free agency has to offer, and in the end they decide to take the deal the team originally offered or the team ups their offer a bit.

Back in January I set about ranking the Raiders free agents-to-be. And with the official start of free agency coming up in just minutes, let’s look at how the Raiders did with their own top free agents.

WR Nelson Agholor — Signing 2-year deal with Patriots
G Denzelle Good — Re-signed to two-year deal
DE Takkarist McKinley — Signing one-year deal with Browns
LB Nicholas Morrow — Re-signed
DT Johnathan Hankins — Re-signed
S Erik Harris — Unsigned

The only two players on this list who went elsewhere are Nelson Agholor and Takk McKinley. Both are at the only positions the Raiders have addressed with outside free agents.

The Raiders made DE Yannick Ngakoue their one big splash signing on a two-year, $26 million deal. And the team added John Brown on a one-year deal work about half of what Agholor received from the Patriots.

Obviously the Raiders still have a lot of holes to fill. More so with the trade of Trent Brown and the expected cuts/trades of Rodney Hudson and Gabe Jackson. Making it all the more important they hold onto their own free agents to avoid opening up more holes unnecessarily.
