Chargers safety Derwin James ejected after vicious hit in Week 16 game vs. Colts

Derwin James was told to hit the showers early Monday night.

The Los Angeles Chargers safety was ejected from Monday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after he administered a vicious hit to the head and neck area of Colts wide receiver Ashton Dulin.

Dulin caught a short pass from quarterback Nick Foles and was immediately struck by James in a scary collision.

Following the play, the referees flagged James for a personal foul and disqualified the strong safety from the contest. He had three tackles, one interception and one pass deflection at the time of his exit.

Dulin, meanwhile, was immediately ushered to the locker room to be evaluated for a head injury after the hit.

Monday night was James’ first game back after missing the previous two contests due to a quadriceps injury.

The Chargers' versatile safety was selected to his third Pro Bowl this season. He entered the game with 106 tackles, four sacks and one interception in 2022.

Los Angeles signed James to a four-year, $76 million contract extension during the offseason, making him the highest-paid safety in the NFL.
