What channel is Louisville vs. Indiana on? Time, TV, radio schedule for Empire Classic

NEW YORK — Louisville men's basketball head coach Kenny Payne knows his way around Madison Square Garden.

The former New York Knicks assistant also knows how it can affect players. Everyone who takes its stage wants to show out.

So, Payne's goal heading into the Empire Classic was simple: "play a brand of basketball that makes people proud."

"I think we have a golden opportunity," he said Wednesday after U of L beat Coppin State, "to show the world the growth in this program."

The Cardinals (2-2) did just that Sunday against No. 17 Texas (4-0) but lost, 81-80, on a last-second shot from the Longhorns' Max Abmas.

Up next is their first game against cross-state rival Indiana (3-1) since 2018 — on less than 24 hours' rest.

The Hoosiers suffered their first loss of the season Sunday, 77-57 to No. 4 UConn, the reigning national champion.

The Huskies held a 37-30 advantage at halftime but won the final 20 minutes, 40-27, while holding IU to 38.9% shooting (1 for 7 from 3-point range) and dominating on the glass, 20-9.

Indiana enters Monday's third-place game 79th on statistician Ken Pomeroy's adjusted efficiency rankings. Louisville rose 28 spots, from 172nd to 144th, after its loss to Texas.

The Cards will go for their first win over the Hoosiers since a 71-62 victory on Dec. 9, 2017, at the KFC Yum! Center. Payne will be matched up against a former NBA colleague in IU head coach Mike Woodson; they worked together on the Knicks' staff from 2020-21.
