Channel League wrestlers earn league titles, CIF-SS berths

The Channel League held its individual wrestling championships last Saturday at San Marcos High.

The top-four finishers in each weight class qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Individual Championships. Fifth-place finishers will serve as CIF alternates.

The Channel League boys wrestlers will compete in the CIF-SS Coastal Division finals at Westminster High and the girls will head to the CIF-SS Central Division finals at Adelanto High.

The top-five boys finishers and top-eight girls placers in each weight class from the CIF-SS finals will qualify for CIF-SS Masters Meet, which will be held Feb. 16 (boys) and Feb. 17 (girls) at Palm Springs High. The top finishers from the Masters will advance to the state tournament Feb. 22-24 at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield.

The Ventura boys and Pacifica girls teams won the team titles during the regular season.

For the boys, Ventura and Dos Pueblos each finished with four champions, Buena had two, and Pacifica, Oxnard, Rio Mesa and San Marcos each had one.

In the 108-pound division, Francisco Miguel Espinosa of Dos Pueblos won the title and was named the Lower Weight MVP. Matt Hernandez of Rio Mesa finished second. Jason Ybarra of Pacifica took third, Jacob A. Hernandez of Ventura was fourth, Julian Giles of Oxnard was fifth, and Caleb Miners of San Marcos placed sixth.

Angel Estrada Rivera of San Marcos won the 115-pound title. Austin Dye of Santa Barbara finished second. Nicholas Hernandez of Ventura was third, Daniel Godinez of Rio Mesa was fourth, Gavin Cortez of Pacifica was fifth, and Kevin Hong of Buena placed sixth.

Jayden Tate of Ventura captured the 122-pound title. Anthony Leal of San Marcos took second. Jonel Hutton of Oxnard was third, Salvador Guzman of Pacifica finished fourth, Andrew Gilligan of Dos Pueblos was fifth, and Sebastian Perez of Buena placed sixth.

Rylan Pedroza of Buena won the 128-pound title. Ethan Limon of Ventura was second. John Kuske of Rio Mesa took third, Patrick Sullivan of Dos Pueblos was fourth, and Emiliano Alcalde of Pacifica placed fifth.

In the 134-pound division, Shaun Vague of Dos Pueblos won the title. Robert Ramirez of Pacifica finished second. Philip Gomez Jr. of Oxnard was third, Ryan Homan of Buena was fourth, Jacob Brown of San Marcos was fifth, and Ash Morris of Ventura placed sixth.

Ethan Dorsey of Ventura won the 140-pound title. Seamus Fergus of Dos Pueblos took second. Dalton Shupe of San Marcos was third, Morales Horacio of Rio Mesa placed fourth, Damian Banaga of Pacifica was fifth, and Sammy Ramirez-Navas of Santa Barbara was sixth.

Daniel Rundle of Ventura captured the 146-pound title. Cole Dominguez of San Marcos was second. Javier Ramirez of Pacifica finished third, Rockoe Martinez of Buena was fourth, Keiden Swensied of Rio Mesa was fifth, and Ryan Risdall of Dos Pueblos placed sixth.

Michael Schrader of Ventura won the 152-pound title. Miguel Moreno of Rio Mesa took second. Aurelio Martinez of Pacifica was third, Derek Fennern of Buena was fourth, and Max Hernandez of Dos Pueblos was fifth.

Nathaniel Dominguez of Pacifica earned the 159-pound title. Brandon Velasquez of Dos Pueblos finished second. David Lopez of Buena was third, Noel Munez of Oxnard placed fourth, Synii Richardson of Ventura was fifth, and Alan Torralba of Rio Mesa placed sixth.

In the 167-pound division, Samuel Ramos of Dos Pueblos took home the title. Wylde Brant of Ventura finished second. Manuel Quesada of Oxnard was third, Salvador Bibian of Pacifica was fourth, Tristan King of Santa Barbara was fifth, and Colton Vargas of Buena placed sixth.

In the 177-pound division, Sylis Penniman of Dos Pueblos won the title. Keenan Gibson of Buena took second. John Corona of Santa Barbara was third, Nathaniel Moreno of Pacifica was fourth, Patrick Hindley of Ventura was fifth, and Isaiah Bautista of Rio Mesa placed sixth.

Joshua Godinez of Oxnard won the 192-pound title and was named the Upper Weight MVP. Gage Kushner of Ventura finished second. Ayden Segovia of Pacifica was third, Orlando Beltran of Buena placed fourth, Robert Martinez of Rio Mesa was fifth, and Hector Medina-Lule of Dos Pueblos was sixth.

David Perez of Rio Mesa won the 217-pound title. Jorge Alvarez of Ventura earned second. than Ono of Dos Pueblos was third, Julian Villegas of Pacifica was fourth, Issa Jobeh of Oxnard placed fifth, and Tracy Segovia of Buena was sixth.

David Arambula of Buena won the 287-pound title. Eduardo Arevalo of Pacifica was second. Nathaniel Cornell of Ventura finished third, Zhen Liu of Santa Barbara was fourth, and Esteban Garcia of Rio Mesa was fifth.

For the girls, Ventura had five champions, Pacifica had four, Rio Mesa and Buena each had two, and Oxnard each had one.

Sofia Kawano of Buena captured the 102-pound title. Jackeline Pinzon of Rio Mesa finished second. Mariah Galindo of Pacifica was third, Izzy Quiroz of Ventura was fourth, and Liliana Herrera of Dos Pueblos was fifth.

Lily Jade Sinclair of Ventura won the 107-pound title. Briceda Trejo of Pacifica finished second and Abigail Arellano of Rio Mesa was third.

Aaliyah Maestas of Pacifica won the 112-pound title. Pluto Leroy of Ventura was second.

Lily Bossoletti of Buena won the 117-pound title and was named the Lower Weight MVP. Alysia Clayton of Pacifica finished second. Lia Uc of Oxnard was third, Lelia Romero of Rio Mesa was fourth, and Alyssa Ramos of Ventura was fifth.

Samantha Salazar of Pacifica earned the 122-pound title. Victoria Bernard of Dos Pueblos finished second. Zoey Pence of Ventura was third, Sophia Flores of Buena was fourth, and Alexandria Cantos of Rio Mesa took fifth.
