Cespedes to undergo right heel surgery on Thursday

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will undergo surgery on his right heel on Thursday, the team announced Wednesday.

Cespedes will have bone calcification removed from the heel, according to the club.

The 32-year-old will undergo a similar surgery on his left heel at a later date.

The two surgeries are expected to sideline Cespedes for at least eight to 10 months.

Cespedes batted .262 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 38 games this season.

The Mets announced last week that Cespedes needed the season-ending surgeries.

"Nobody would like to go through surgery at any time," Cespedes told reporters through an interpreter last week. "I try to do my best to stay on the field and play a lot, but we exhausted all of the conservative treatment options. ... I was not able to be on the field and play the same way I used to."
