Centennial's Steven Milam named New Mexico Class 5A Baseball Player of the Year
LAS CRUCES ― Centennial senior Steven Milam was named the Class 5A New Mexico Baseball Player of the Year.
The All State baseball teams were released this week with Milam, teammate Santiago Garcia and Las Cruces High School pitcher Steve Solarzano earning first-team honors.
Milam and Garcia helped the Hawks reach the Class 5A state championship game, where they fell to Rio Rancho.
Milam hit .627 with seven home runs and 50 RBI for the Hawks. The LSU signee was also 1-0 on the mound for the Hawks.
Garcia was 8-0 on the mound for the Hawks with a .72 earned run average. Garcia was second on the Hawks in batting average (.505) and RBI (44).
Solarzano was a first-team pitcher and second team catcher for the Bulldawgs. The New Mexico State signee hit a team best .462 for the Bulldawgs and set a team record for strikeouts in a career.
