Celtics injury update: Malcolm Brogdon playing through injury; Gabe Vincent out for Game 5

A pair of injuries have struck key backcourt players for the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat according to recent reports.

For the Celtics, the Athletic’s Jared Weiss shared veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon has been playing with an injured arm since Game 1 of the 2023 East finals. Weiss reports Brogdon tore a tendon in his arm in the series opener, which would explain why a 44.4% 3-point shooter has gone 3-of-14 from beyond the arc.

On the Heat side, the Athletic’s Shams Charania reports point guard Gabe Vincent will miss Game 5 due to an ankle sprain sustained in Game 4.

Though each loss is not a minor issue for either team, the Celtics’ depth will perhaps grant them a slight edge over the Heat, who are already down two key contributors, Victor Oladipo and Tyler Herro.

For Boston, down 3-1 in the series, simply having more capable bodies could be enough to force a Game 6 if the team comes out and plays with the same level of cohesion and focus as they did in Game 4.
