CBS Sports gives the Vikings Iowa Edge Rusher Lukas Van Ness in latest Mock

As the Minnesota Vikings’ offseason continues to unfold, we will be able to identify where this team is likely headed in terms of how they want to construct their roster for the 2023 season. As you look around, it’s interesting to see what national media outlets perceive as the Minnesota Vikings’ biggest need this offseason.

In CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards’ latest mock draft, they had the Vikings selecting Clemson edge rusher Myles Murphy. On Friday, they changed things up and had the Vikings select Iowa edge rusher Lukas Van Ness.

“Would Minnesota prefer a more explosive edge rusher like Nolan Smith or a better run defender like Lukas Van Ness? Minnesota elects to pick Van Ness to learn from Za’Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter.”

It’s still early in the offseason to know if both Za’Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter will be on the team when the Vikings start playing. Nonetheless, there is a need for depth behind those two, with an eventual successor. Van Ness would provide the Vikings with that, and it’d be a great spot to land to help him learn and acclimate to the NFL.
