CB West earns first district baseball championship by blanking top-seeded Spring-Ford

No. 14 CB West 4, No. 1 Spring-Ford 0

Central Bucks West wasn't content to achieve firsts in school history by qualifying for the PIAA state championships and the reaching the District One title game. Head coach Brian Weaver's Bucks finished the job to become district champions with Thursday's victory over top-seeded Spring-Ford at Plymouth Township and will face District 3 runner-up Wilson West Lawn at Plymouth Township in the first round of the state playoffs on Monday afternoon (4).

Junior Sam Greer no-hit the Rams for five innings, allowing only a single in the sixth to end up with two walks and four strikeouts. Senior Alex Jenkinson took over in the seventh. Greer also had an RBI double.

CB West scored single runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings. Senior catcher Max McGlone contributed a pair of RBI singles and freshman Jack Hogenauer added a sacrifice fly.

"(Winning districts is) tough to put into words," said McGlone afterward. "Amazing experience."

"This was just incredible," Weaver said.

The Bucks finished second to North Penn in the Suburban One League Colonial Division, then toppled the second-seeded Knights 14-1 in five innings during Tuesday's semifinal in Lansdale. North Penn handled CB West by a combined 17-6 (12-3, 5-3) during the teams' two regular-season contests.

The No. 14 Bucks, who also overwhelmed third-seeded Methacton 10-0 in the second round of districts, join Pennridge (No. 17 in 2016) as the only seeds above 11 to win districts over the past eight years.

Third-place game, June 1

No. 2 North Penn 6, No. 5 Plymouth Whitemarsh 5

The Knights, already having clinched a state spot, finished third by outlasting Plymouth Whitemarsh on sophomore Brady Dolder's walk-off RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. They'll visit District 2 champion Hazleton in Monday's first round of states (4:30).

Junior Ben Farley added two hits and senior James Mangine and sophomore Chase Jones each contributed two RBIs. Junior Henry Wetzel (2-for-3) earned the pitching win in relief of junior starter Nolan Walker.

Fifth-place game, June 1

No. 8 Avon Grove 13, No. 4 Abington 7

The host Ghosts fell to end up sixth in the district and will visit District 3 champion Cedar Cliff in Monday's first round of states (4). Abington had never qualified for the state playoffs before.
