Cavouti wins Ladies Finger Lakes golf event, Corning CC wins team title. See next tourneys

Last week at Indian Hills Golf Club, the Women’s Finger Lakes Golf Association held its 86th Annual Tournament. It was a 36-hole, two-day event with 57 ladies representing 10 different golf clubs in the Finger Lakes Region.

When the last putts of the event were holed, two ladies out of Corning Country Club were tied atop the leaderboard with identical scores of 162. Jeanne Cavouti and Cecelia Neally went to a sudden-death (sudden-life sounds better to me) playoff to determine a winner. Jeanne won the title on the first hole of the playoff to give her the championship.

Despite losing the playoff, Cecelia was declared the winner of the Championship Flight with her 162 score. Ann Koenig from Indian Hills checked with a 164 total for second place while Lynn Quinn out of Clifton Country Club was third with a 167 total, and club mate Ellen Weeks was fourth with a 169 two-hole score.

Amy Gallant from Indian Hills won the First Flight with a 168 total while second place went to Patty Baier out of Dutch Hollow Country Club. Cathy Ambler out of Clifton Springs CC was third with a 176 total and Leone Cole out of Wayne Hills Country Club was fourth with a 178 total.

Jean Zimmer out of Highland Golf Club captured the Second Flight crown with a 169 total while Sue Held from Indian Hills grabbed the runner-up spot with a 172. Third place went to Kelly Lundergan from Corning CC with a 181 total which was a single stroke better than Mindy Gilbert from Highland Golf Club.

Indian Hills struck again in the Third Flight when Penny Schoonover took first place with a 180 total. Second place went to Corning CC golfer Staci Covey with a 185. Lucy Hinell from Cortland Country Club was third with a 185 and Linda Cahill from Highland took fourth place.

Nancy Hart from Dutch Hollow CC won the Fourth Flight with a 189 total. Peg Cornell out of the Bath Country Club took second place with a 190 and Linda Hill from Indian Hills was fourth with a 196 while Sue Gute from the Lakeside County Club finished fourth with a 197 total.

During the tournament, the organizers also included a team event within the event. Corning Country Club took the honors with a 675 total while Indian Hills finished second with a 684 combined total. Third place went to Clifton Springs with a 687 aggregate score. These scores were based on the top four scores from each golf club.

Tournament committee members wanted to make sure to give lots of credit to all the hard work put into the event by Chris Ames, Jeff Rupert and their entire staff to make their event such a success.

There will also be a Ladies Invitational to be held at Indian Hills on Sunday, Aug. 16. Details of the event can be secured by visiting the pro shop at Indian Hills during regular business hours.
