Cast your vote: Who should win PNJ Athlete of the Week for Nov. 20-Dec. 2

Vote early and often for the Pensacola News Journal Athlete of the Week!

The polls are open until 11 a.m. Sunday at PNJ.com. Each weekly winner will be awarded a one-of-a-kind PNJ Athlete of the Week shirt provided by BSN SPORTS. Winners will be contacted within the next two weeks.

Nominees are accepted via email or phone, but will be selected by staff in the absence of submission.

Girls Basketball: Booker T. Washington remains undefeated after victory at Pine Forest

PNJ Athlete of the Week (Nov. 20-Dec. 2)

Boys Basketball: Treymar Jones, Milton - The junior wing averaged team-highs of 15.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals during five Panthers victories. He had a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds during the team’s win over Gulf Breeze.

Boys Soccer: Leo Barragan, Pace - The senior striker produced 11 points with four goals and three assists during a pair of Patriots wins. Barragan produced four goals and two helpers during the team’s win against Pensacola Catholic.

Boys Wrestling: Nolan Ellis, Milton - The Panthers senior took first place in the 144-pound division at the Murder Creek Melee. Ellis defeated Northside Methodist’s David Bailey in the first-place match via a 6-1 decision.

Football (Defense): Turner McLaughlin, Pensacola Catholic - The senior linebacker put up a team-best 10 tackles along with two fumbles recoveries and a forced fumble during the Crusaders’ 22-21 overtime loss against Bradford in a Class 2S state semifinal.

Football (Offense): Nigel Nelson, Pensacola Catholic - The junior athlete had 32 carries for 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns during the Crusaders’ 22-21 overtime loss against Bradford in a Class 2S state semifinal.

Girls Basketball: Chamiah Francis, Booker T. Washington - The sophomore center averaged 22.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.6 steals during five Wildcats victories. Francis had double-doubles in four of those games.

Girls Soccer: Addison Manning, Pensacola Catholic - The freshman forward put up six goals and an assist during three Crusaders victories. Manning had a four-goal performance in the team’s shutout win over Rocky Bayou Christian.

Girls Wrestling: Lehela Turnquest, Pace - The Patriots junior collected three falls en route to a first-place finish in the 126-pound weight class during the Murder Creek Melee. Turnquest’s quickest pin occurred in 19 seconds against Wewahitchka’s Angel Williams.
