Carlson football star Jackson Zachary to play for Michigan Tech

Gibraltar Carlson’s Jackson Zachary has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Michigan Tech.

Zachary helped the Marauders rack up 28 wins over the past three seasons, including a 10-2 record last year when they won a district championship before falling 40-19 to Waterford Mott in the Regional finals.

He played on both sides of the ball.

He was a dangerous weapon on offense with 25 receptions for 357 yards, but made the All-Region team as a defense back. Zachary made 44 tackles and intercepted five passes.

“Jackson was our Swiss army knife,” Carlson coach Jason Gendron said. “One of the best athletes on the field in all the games we played.”

Football isn’t the only sport where Zachary shows off his athletic talents at Carlson. He also was the leading scorer for the Marauders in basketball and is one of the top players on the baseball team.

Whiteford graduate Berlynn Keller carries a .318 batting average for the Lourdes University softball team.

She has only accumulated 22 at-bats, however.

She has been used primarily as a pitcher where she owns a 5.28 earn-run average with a 3-7 record.

Bedford graduate Alexia Moussaed and Dundee’s Abby Sparks also are on the roster.

Former Summerfield coach Travis Pant is an assistant baseball coach for the Gray Wolves. Whiteford graduate Levi Hillard is a member of the pitching staff. He has appeared in five games with a 4.63 ERA.

New Boston Huron graduate Elizabeth Anderson has the best time of the season for the Michigan State women’s track and field team in the 400-meter dash.

The freshman was clocked at :55.55 in placing 15th at the Clyde Hart Classic at Baylor on March 23.

Anderson ranks second for the Spartans in the 200 with a time of :25.11.

Monroe High senior Brooke Trouten recently signed to play soccer for Cleary University.The daughter of Brandi Barron and Tom Trouten has been playing the sport since she was four years old, starting in the Monroe Area Soccer Association.

Ava Johnson, who was the Monroe County Region Girls Soccer Player of the Year in 2021, is playing for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

She had two goals and an assist in 19 games.

Gavin Moczydlowsky of New Boston Huron has pitched in six games as a freshman for the Michigan State baseball team this season, giving up 12 hits and nine earned runs with 9 strikeouts.

Bedford graduate Brandon Nigh is hitting .279 with 11 doubles, a triple, five home runs, nine stolen bases and 35 RBIs in 36 games for the Oakland University baseball team.

The 2021 Monroe County Region Baseball Player of the Year is a junior who also has pitched three games in relief.
