Cardinals place K Zane Gonzalez on IR, make other roster moves

The Arizona Cardinals announced a number of roster moves on Saturday afternoon to prepare for their Week 15 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium. They brought back a player from injured reserve, added a pair to IR and brought up some practice squad players to the active roster.

Gonzalez missed the Cardinals' Week 14 win over the New York Giants and was ruled out of the game this weekend as well with a back injury. By landing on IR, he now is done for the regular season, as he must be on IR for at least three games. He finishes the season having made 16-of-22 field goals and 38-of-39 extra points. Mike Nugent will handle kicking duties on Sunday for the second week in a row.

Phillips lands on IR for the second time this season for his hamstring injury. He came off of injured reserve before last week's game and reinjured it after four plays. His regular season is over as well. He finishes the season with 11 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in nine games.

RE Darrell Daniels reactivated from IR

Daniels was designated for return from IR earlier this week. He missed the last four games with an ankle injury. He will return to his role as the third tight end on the roster.

RB D.J. Foster signed to the active roster

Foster has spent the entire season on the practice squad but has been elevated seven times to the active roster for games. This time, he is signed to the roster, meaning he will have to be released and clear waivers if they want to get him back on the practice squad. He could see some time on offense on Sunday to spell Kenyan Drake if Chase Edmonds is unable to play.

K Mike Nugent elevated to the active roster

Nugent is elevated to the active roster for the second game in a row. Gonzalez missed last week's game and Nugent made all four of his field goals and both his extra points. He will revert to the practice squad again on Monday.

LB Terrance Smith elevated from practice squad

This move is the one surprise of the day. Smith, who is receiver DeAndre Hopkins' cousin, was signed to the practice squad in the middle of November. He presumably replaces Kylie Fitts, who is out with a hamstring injury this weekend. Smith will likely play on special teams and might get a few snaps on defense in the Cardinals' "Jet" defensive package when they have no defensive linemen and six linebackers on the field at once.
