Callie Levin, Tanner Berggren voted the Register's Athletes of the Week for Feb. 26-March 3
Solon girls basketball player Callie Levin and Bondurant-Farrar boys basketball player Tanner Berggren were voted the Des Moines Register's Iowa Ortho female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of Feb. 26-March 3.
Levin won female Athlete of the Week with 68% of the vote. Clear Creek-Amana girls basketball player Ava Locklear was second with 28%.
Levin led the Solon girls to the 3A state championship by averaging 18.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
Levin saved her best performance for last, going for 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists during the Spartans' 54-47 victory over No. 1 Estherville-Lincoln Central in the 3A championship game.
Berggren won male Athlete of the Week with 76% of the vote. Cedar Rapids Kennedy boys basketball player Joe Bean took second with 9%.
Berggren helped the defending 3A state champion Bondurant-Farrar boys basketball team return to the state tournament with a thrilling 60-58 victory over third-ranked Adel-Desoto-Minburn in the substate championship game on Feb. 26.
Berggren went for 25 points and three assists. He made 9 of 16 shots from the field, including 6 of 11 3-pointers.
