Calallen's Phil Danaher on 2024 ballot for Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Legendary Calallen football coach Phil Danaher is among 32 figures on the ballot for the 2024 Texas Sports Hall of Fame, released Thursday.

Danaher retired after the 2021 season as the state's winningest head football coach with a record of 490-118-4 after 47 seasons and 41 playoff appearances, including 422 wins at Calallen.

Danaher is one of 20 nominees on the primary ballot including several other prominent coaches and players. The inductees will be announced in the fall of 2023 with the ceremony taking place April 13, 2024 in Waco.

Cito Gaston, who managed the Blue Jays to a pair of World Series wins in the 1990s, and spent some of his youth in Corpus Christi, is also on the ballot, one of a dozen finalists on the veterans ballot. He is one of three African American managers to lead a team to a World Series title.
