C.J. Stroud named the starting quarterback for Texans

QB1 for Ohio State the last couple of seasons is officially QB1 for the Houston Texans, at least for the first game of the 2023-2024 NFL season.

The announcement was made by Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans after the preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, a contest in which Stroud threw his first touchdown pass.

Stroud started all three preseason games for the Texans. He struggled in the first one, but showed improved poise and command of the offense as the preseason went on. He drew rave reviews from the coaching staff and media members who saw his elite ball placement as he continued to grasp the offense.

Stroud will join Chicago Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields as the two Ohio State products under center to begin the NFL season.

If you’d like to take in Stroud’s NFL debut, you’ll have to find it via NFL Sunday Ticket because it will not air in Central Ohio. However, if you pulled the trigger on that package or are lucky enough to know someone that has, the Texans will take on the Baltimore Ravens Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. ET.
