Bucs releasing OT Donovan Smith

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are releasing longtime left tackle Donovan Smith, per multiple reports.

A second-round pick out of Penn State in the 2015 NFL draft, Smith has been the Bucs’ starting left tackle ever since Week 1 of his rookie season, missing just a small handful of starts over his entire career.

Smith has been a reliable and durable presence at a premium position, but his plays has been inconsistent throughout his career, and he’s coming off a disappointing 2022 campaign that saw him struggle for much of the year after suffering an elbow injury in Week 1.

A move long expected due to the Bucs’ salary cap constraints, Smith now leaves Tampa Bay with a gaping hole at left tackle, which could be filled my moving All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs to the opposite side.
