Bryson DeChambeau becomes first golfer to release NFT trading cards

Bryson DeChambeau keeps on changing the game. This time, he’s doing it off the course.

On Monday, the bulked-up bomber who has been on a unique quest for more distance became the first golfer to release his own limited-edition NFT trading cards.

According to our friends at USA Today, an NFT – non-fungible token – is a piece of data that verifies you own a digital item, anything from a piece of artwork to a clip of a golf tournament, in DeChambeau’s case. You may have heard of NBA Top Shot, one of the most-popular NFT’s in sports where a LeBron James highlight sold for $208,000.

There will be five different versions of DeChambeau’s cards, and each will have its own auction and will be sold to the highest bidder via OpenSea, one of the largest NFT marketplaces. The auction for the items begins Monday, March 22nd and ends Tuesday, March 23rd at 10 p.m. ET.

In addition to winning the Distance NFT, the highest bidder will also get the chance to meet DeChambeau at a tournament and receive an autographed U.S. Open flag, custom set of Cobra golf clubs, $1,000 Bose credit and six dozen Bridgestone golf balls.
