Bruins' Marchand back to his sneaky ways against Blue Jackets
After a relatively quiet first round, meaning he didn’t lick anyone, everyone’s favourite instigator is back to his old tactics. In overtime of Game 1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins slyly stepped on the stick of Cam Atkinson and snapped it at the face-off. A sneaky move to get a slight man advantage close to the Blue Jackets’ zone, but luckily the referee kicked Bergeron out and gave Atkinson time to grab a new twig.

After the Bruins went on to win in overtime, Atkinson addressed Marchand’s tactics. I don’t think Boston fans can argue that this was an accidental play, and luckily for them Marchand got away with what could have been an unsportsmanlike penalty in OT.
Cam Atkinson said Brad Marchand stepped on his stick in OT, which is why it broke. He said that has never happened to him before. “Hey, if that’s how he wants to roll,” Atkinson said. “I don’t know, that’s who he is. I’m not going to let it get to me. It is what it is.”

When asked about the incident, Marchand had a very different perspective. You know what they say, there’s two sides to every story...
In response to this, today Marchand, clearly with tongue planted firmly in cheek, said, “Yeah, I think he was trying to dull up my blade there, send me to the room to get it sharpened. It’s kind of rude of him to do.” https://t.co/OrG69CFQvT
