BEREA — The Cleveland Browns drafted Cincinnati defensive tackle Jowon Btiggs with the 243re pick of the 2024 NFL draft. Briggs, a 6-foot-1 prospect who spent three years with the Bearcats after two seasons at Virginia, was the 22nd defensive tackle off the board. The Browns ended their six-man draft class the same way they started, by injecting younger legs into the defensive tackle group. Briggs was a player the team had been interested in throughout the process leading up to the draft, even though he didn't receive an invitation to the NFL combine. Like their second-round pick, Ohio State's Mike Hall Jr., Briggs is a tad bit undersized, at least height-wise. However, at this point in the draft, the goal is really to find potential developmental pieces who could find a way either into the back end of the rotation or onto special teams.

Briggs came out of Cincinnati Western Hills High School a highly-regarded prospect, choosing Virginia over the likes of Ohio State and Alabama. After playing all 13 games as true freshman in 2019 and seven games in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he came home to Cincinnati, where he played in 39 games over his final three seasons. Between the two stops, Briggs finished with 12 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss, while also blocking a kick.
