Browns: John Johnson III, Denzel Ward both deflecting blame from blown coverage vs. Jets

The Cleveland Browns let yet another blown coverage get in the way of a 2-0 start after going up two scores with less than two minutes left in the game. Not even Myles Garrett can explain it. Do not blame Nick Chubb for score, do not even blame rookie kicker Cade York for missing the kick.

This loss is all on the secondary, and nobody seems to be taking blame for it. After the game yesterday, it was safety John Johnson III who said not everyone is playing the same coverage. Then newly paid cornerback Denzel Ward came out and said, “It wasn’t my coverage… but I’ll take the blame for it.”

The classic, “I’ll say it was me if it makes this go away.”

Looking back at the play, it looks pretty clear-cut like the Brown are running Cover 3 and Ward is the only one playing hinge technique like he is in Cover 2. This issue has to be resolved.

The Browns have to do some soul searching to do. The rest of the AFC North struggled too, so they still have a chance to get on the right track as the Pittsburgh Steelers come to town on Thursday Night.

It is not time to panic yet, but we are getting close to the button.
